There is only one species of Budgerigar, commonly called the Budgie. They are very popular pets because of their friendly personalities.
They are not endangered, and live in large flocks that roam most of the dry open inland grasslands of Australia. The wild birds are mainly green, but many different colours are found with birds that have been bred in captivity.
The males can be recognised by their blue noses, while the females have pink.
All our budgies have been given to us. Some have paired and chosen nest boxes, and one pair successfully hatched four chicks at the Aviary in the Summer of 2012.
