There are nine different species of Love Birds that live in Africa. The were given their name because they form strong monogamous pair bonds.
They are not endangered. Love Birds are popular as pet or cage birds, and they breed very easily in captivity.
We have many Love Birds of different species, as well as some that have cross-bred. Although they are small birds, they are noisy and aggressive, so we keep them in the same enclosure as the larger birds.
The most common species is the Rosy-Faced Love Bird, one of which is in the foreground of the first photo below.
